Star Citizen/Elite: Dangerous

  I have been a huge fan of science fiction since I was a kid. My first introduction to Science Fiction was the original Star Wars Trilogy. I loved the thought of being able to travel in space. To see distant stars and explore things that are unknown to the general public. I was facinated with the idea of the Force and I use to play all sorts of Star Wars themed games with my little brother. 

 As I grew older I became more facinated with space and what is in it. I started studying different things in space when I was in the 6th grade. I was doing a report on Blackholes I think it was and my step dad let me use his college astronomy book. I read through it so many times trying to understand everything I could about it. The short stroy is I did really good on my report. 

 Yet I still didn't understand a lot of things about what Einstein had said. So, me being a kid and wanting to learn more I started researching on my own time. The internet was just picking up so I didn't really have access to that. So I would go to the library at school and look things up there. After a while though I kinda gave up researchig space. 

 I started getting more into video games around that time as well. I remember playing games like Unreal Tournement and thinking that these planets/arenas would be a cool place to visit on a planet. I also played a few RTS games based in space. (Not StarCraft) I am talking Dune ladies and gentlemen. I am talking oldschool. I remember falling in love with it. Space was always my first love. 

 I played every space game I could get my hands on. From Doom to Unreal Tournement 2004. Anything that was even remotley related to other planets, or anything of the like. I longed to be among the stars. 

 Fast forward to when Star Citizen was still running their kickstarter. I loved the idea. I was all for it. Sadly I didn't have the money to help then. I forgot about it for a while. Then out of nowhere a guy I know brought it up, and I instantly was hooked. I bought my first ship and did as much research as I could. Yet I still wanted more. So I started looking into other games like it and came across Elite:Dangerous. Which I instantly bought as well. 

 Now, I am not going to say that both these games can be compared to each other right now. Since Elite is actually out and has been for a while now. Star Citizen though seems to be pushing farther than Elite. Yes Elite has a ton of star systems and is available right now. Yet Star Citizen has one of the biggest names in the Space Sim game type ever. I can't fully judge which is the better game because Star Citizen only has Arena Commander out right now. Which is like a map from Unreal Tournement with bots or real players. So it really isn't much. Yet it still stands as a testament to what Cloud Imperium is doing. The number of ships available to buy right now. Are twice that of Elite:Dangerous. The only thing that I have to say about Star Citizen and the ability to buy ships before the game launch is that. It is a good and bad thing. 

 Some of those ships are worth a lot of money in the real world. Heck there are packages for 12 grand. With every ship so far. Which is outragous, yet for those that will spend time in this game and want to be a power house. It's possibly worth it. 

 Elite, seems to have a somewhat level playing field. You buy ships with in game money. Which makes things easier. Which isn't to say you can't get those ships in Star Citizen in game. You can it will just take a lot of game time.

 I guess what I am trying to say is that as a gamer this is one of the proudest moments in my life as a game. I have the ability to do what I have always dreamt of doing. Going into space and taking it by storm. Taking out the bad/good guys and proving I am good at what I do. That being bounty hunting, smuggling, transporting, or piratering. These games have opened up the galaxy and possibly the universe to all gamers. 

 So in closing I would like to say thank you to all the Devs of these companies. For making a galaxy that we all can live in.
