Speaking of "Next" Daybreak has decided to shutdown its development for Ever Quest: Next. Which seems to be an odd choice in the grand scheme of things in the MMO landscape. It also seems to me that the company isn't doing as well as we had all hoped. Looking at how many games have actually launched from SOE/ Daybreak we will see that the track record there isn't what they would have us think. The last game they fully launched was back in 2012 with Planetside 2. So with games like H1Z1 being split into multiple games. It seems that the ideas of the games they are making aren't completely cohesive. Which would make Daybreak more money in the long run for players to buy things for two games instead of one.
Xbox/PS4 Cross platform play. Is freaking amazing in theory. Playing Call of Duty:30 against the opposite console players is an awesome idea. There have been a ton of articles about this lately and I am all for it, but in order for it to happen there have to be some changes.
I would assume that there would have to be some form of open source code/ framework put together to make it so both PS4 and Xbox could communicate. Which could end up being turned into a nightmare for both PlayStation and Xbox. Having some form of open source code or frame work put in place could make both PSN and Xbox live easier to hack or even cheat in games. I personally am all for it. The console wars have been going on for a long time and seeing these two juggernauts duke it out. Would be awesome. It could start a whole new form of Esports. Then again it could also crash both systems for a while.
Then we have the closure of Lionhead, which comes as a surprise to me personally. I loved the Fable games. Yes, I had some issues with previous people who said things and made promises and never kept them, but who didn't. I still loved playing the first game. It was something different. I was an RPG where you grew up and could be the hero or the villain. It was one of the first games on console that I can remember, that gave you the option to play the way you wanted.
Carbine laying off a bunch of its development team is also a hard one to wrap my head around. Since the launch of free to play. I haven't really touched the game. It lost something in translation. In my personal opinion. The game use to be hard, when I went back to test out the free to play version. I was saddened to find that my character had been erased and I had to start from square one. Which isn't all that fun. I also heard that there may even be more layoffs. Which could end up with either the closure of Carbine or the closure of WildStar.
